ALCOM’s Micro-Business Network Project | 23/08/2007
Initiated in 1999, ALCOM’s Micro-Business Network project is a unique program aimed at educating young Malaysians on the importance of recycling. As a secondary objective, it also helps to inculcate an entrepreneurial mindset from a young age. Children at participating schools are taught how to make recycled paper. They then use this recycled paper to produce marketable products such as greeting cards. Through this process, the children gain exposure to planning, design, production and marketing.
ALCOM sponsors the necessary equipment and provides the required training on paper-making to get participating schools started. ALCOM and its business associates also supports our young entrepreneurs by buying their greeting cards.
The Micro-Business Network project is one that resonates with ALCOM’s vision of making the world a lighter, brighter and better place. It serves as a useful community relations vehicle and helps promote healthy interaction between students, teachers and ALCOM employees. It is noteworthy that a school for children with challenging learning abilities is an active participant in the project and has adopted this as part of their official curriculum.
